About StitchMargin

Pricing math for shops that make real things.

StitchMargin helps embroidery businesses turn production costs into customer-ready prices without hiding the formula.

Our method

The calculator starts with the actual cost of the blank, thread, backing, packaging, machine time, hands-on labor, setup, overhead, and expected waste. It then solves backward from a target profit margin after selling fees. This is more reliable than adding an arbitrary markup to stitch count.

How guidance is reviewed

StitchMargin Research compares the formula with published embroidery shop price tables, industry pricing guides, software workflows, and recurring questions from working embroiderers. Benchmarks are labeled as directional because wages, machine cost, garment risk, and local markets vary.

Sources and transparency

Useful references include DecoNetwork's embroidery pricing guide, public custom-apparel price tables, and current embroidery quoting tools. The calculator's formula is visible on every relevant page. No benchmark is presented as a guaranteed market price.

Editorial policy

Examples are for planning and education. Pages are updated when product logic or cited benchmarks change. StitchMargin does not accept payment to alter calculator outputs. Paid products fund the free calculator but do not change its recommendation.

Limitations

StitchMargin is not accounting, tax, financial, or legal advice. Users must verify costs, sales tax, customer terms, and local requirements before sending a quote.
